West Wilts Esprit Gymnastics Club Ltd was incorporated in February 2013. The club, established some 40 years ago, is one of the longest running clubs in Wiltshire and operated under DC Leisure’s management for approximately 10 years. Formed initially from Clarendon School’s after school gymnastics classes in the early 1980s, the club has touched the lives of hundreds of gymnasts in Trowbridge and the surrounding areas.
Building on the success of the foundation laid down by DC Leisure, the club separated in 2013 to enable it to move to its next development stage, which now sees the use of a greater range of volunteers and access to new sources of funding; both of which were not possible under the management of DC Leisure Ltd.
Under its new structure the club has been set up with the intent of being able to re-invest in itself, and to develop the facilities and the range of Gymnastics and Fitness programmes on offer to the community of Trowbridge and West Wiltshire.
British Gymnastics (BG)
West Wilts Esprit Gymnastics Club Ltd (trading as West Wilts Gymnastics & Fitness) is an affiliated member of British Gymnastics, and holds GymMark accreditation. Every gymnast is required to become an Associate Member, as without this membership gymnasts will not be insured or able to compete. Membership is personal to each gymnast and is renewable each September.
Since April 1st 2013 the club has been managed by a Company Limited by Guarantee incorporated during February 2013. The Company has a Board of Directors, active club supporters and a Head Coach.
The Company pays: the rental on the property, Council Tax, utilities, the salaries of the staff, maintenance of equipment including servicing, BG club membership (including Employers Liability insurance and Public Liability insurance), affiliation to SWAGA and WAGA.
The Directors are:
Kevin Borley – Director/Chairman
Kevin is married to Sue Clark and has been actively involved in both youth and adult sports administration over the past 40 years. He is a qualified PADI Scuba Instructor and emergency first responder and in his time in Wiltshire worked with the town council in the 90s to re-established youth football in Calne.
Sue Clark – Director/Head Coach
Sue has been coaching for more than 20 years, having started her gymnastics career at the Christie Miller Gymnastics Club in Melksham whilst very young. Her family were actively involved in the setting up of the Wiltshire School of Gymnastics, whilst she herself was training and competing. After a career in Leisure Management whilst at university studying Sports Science and English Literature, Sue returned to Trowbridge and Gymnastics coaching with DC Leisure in 2005. She is now a qualified Level 4 Senior Coach in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, a qualified Judge, and a Level 1 and 2 Women’s Artistic Tutor.
Together the vision we share is:
To develop and maintain a commercially sustainable and inclusive Gymnastics and Fitness facility that will serve the Trowbridge and surrounding West Wiltshire area for many years to come. We aim to attract external investment and grow the facility and its range of services, reinvesting all profits into developing our staff and the programmes we provide.
WWGF is fully inclusive and open to all abilities and ages, and we are keen to develop programmes that will enable those with disabilities to take part in our activities.
